Fundamentally, this is work where each person examines the “ghosts” from the past that intrude into the couple’s relationship. Problems with money, sex, relatives, childcare responsibilities, balancing work and a home life are often external symptoms of what each person has experienced in life. These strengths and vulnerabilities are what they bring to the table. Self reflection, taking responsibility for one’s behavior, sorting out boundaries all contribute to good problem solving and strengthen the relationship.
